The mission of Hay! Neighbor, Inc. is to extend a neighborly hand to Missouri and Arkansas horse owners who need additional resources to provide sufficient feed, shelter, or health care for their horses.

A 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Hay! Neighbor,
Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our new organization.

The number of unwanted, neglected, and abandoned horses is increasing due to decreased market values and increased economic difficulties.  Owners who have been able to provide for their horses in the past may be faced with income loss, health problems, or the death of a family member.  They suddenly find themselves unable to pay for hay or veterinary care.  Or they may lose the physical ability to care for their horse.  Sometimes owners have to move to a location where they can no longer keep their horse.

We function as a link between those who need help and those who can provide help.  We act as an organizational system to locate resources and ensure that they benefit the appropriate horses.

Our three goals are to:

  1. Educate horse owners about the nutrition and healthcare needs of horses so that they can make good decisions regarding the welfare of their animals.
  2. Provide feed and basic healthcare for horses whose owners have the desire and ability to keep and properly care for their horses, but who are experiencing financial hardship or illness.
  3. Relocate horses for owners who do not have the desire, ability, and/or space to keep them.

Check back often.  We will provide updates on our accomplishments, our volunteers, and our donors.  And please consider participating.  We all have resources or talents that can be shared, whether it is knowledge, time, spare hay, or an empty barn.  We are all neighbors and you may be the neighbor someone needs to count on today.

“Protecting the welfare of a horse may be as simple as providing hay to a neighbor.”
